Data Security
Protecting cardholder data in your operations is critical, especially when you are issuing financial cards. The complexities surrounding security increase dramatically when you begin issuing data-intensive smart cards.

Datacard® high-volume card issuance systems offer a variety of built-in safeguards to protect cardholder data, including encryption software, audit trails and security features that are inherent in Windows® operating systems.

For smart card operations, the Datacard® Smart Card Personalization Manager software offers built-in cryptographic resources that prevent system operators from decoding or accessing cardholder data. Information is stored on a central server and securely transmitted to card personalization systems using keys and special encryption methods.

Anti-Skimming Technology
The new MagnePrint™ anti-skimming module for the Datacard® 9000E, 9000 and 7000 Series card issuance systems helps financial institutions, merchants and other organizations fight fraud due to "skimming", an increasingly popular form of financial card fraud.

This new, field-installable module reads a unique pattern of particles on each magnetic stripe during the card personalization process and stores a highly identifiable "fingerprint" in an audit trail or database. The database is easily and securely transferred to the issuing bank for ongoing management.

Specially designed transaction terminals in merchant locations read the MagnePrint fingerprint along with card data at the time of the transaction and send it to the issuer's host for authorization. If the magnetic stripe pattern on the card that is swiped does not match the original stored pattern, the card is likely fraudulent and the transaction can be declined.

Datacard has developed a variety of technologies to help you design and issue highly secure financial cards. In addition to standard indent and embossing technologies, you can add laser-engraved images, text and micro-text to cards to help improve security.

You can also add laser engraved or thermally printed images to cards to help ensure authenticity. Other options include a vast portfolio of high security holographic OVD topcoats and laminates offerings that make it easy to detect fraud and forgery.

Card Durability
Financial cards must withstand harsh environments. They are often stored in vinyl sleeves, wallets and purses, where they can come into contact with plasticizers and leather treatment agents. They are subjected to repeated swiping and are frequently exposed to heat, moisture and UV rays. These hazards can quickly degrade images, text and bar codes, significantly reducing the life span of the card.

Datacard® CardGard™ UV-curable topcoat module and Datacard® DuraGard® laminates help protect cards against abrasion, moisture, and chemical attack. These translucent protective layers are applied edge-to-edge on a card as part of the inline personalization process. Technically advanced resins bond to the card surface, providing the utmost in protection for bar codes, signatures, variable text, logos, and photo images from abrasions and chemical attack.
